It’s been a while since I’ve updated, but I’ve been in Thailand for the past while. Oh woe is me, I know!
But I wanted to share Com Truise. I downloaded this a long time ago actually, but I took me a while to get into him. Yes most of the songs off the album are remarkably similar to one another, but after a while I decided that was a good thing. It’s his style. and if you like his style, then you want more of it.
I’ve been really enjoying this album though, Galactic Melt, as it reminds me of Tangerine Dream and Risky Business (I think the name Com Truise should be indicative that this is no coincidence).
Think blue lights under cars, the city scape at night, girls riding motor cycles, and warm summer evenings (or as it happens, winter evenings in a tropical country). Anything dark with a bit of light. Shade with joy.
This song speaks for itself. If it doesn’t put a smile on your face I just don’t know what will! When I first heard ∆ (Alt-J) this summer, I didn’t think they were even speaking English. I figured oooh, something upbeat from Iceland for once instead of Sigur Ros (no disrespect, but its not exactly uplifting music).
If you like this song, grab their entire album “An Awesome Wave” and have fun walking home on crisp fall nights with a smile on. Jump in the puddles with your gumboots and revel in the little things! You wont be disappointed! Enjoy!
I love this tune. It’s such a great mix of instrumentals and vocals without being too overbearing or gaudy – I’m not sure if gaudy can really be a word attached to music, but I think you know what I mean. Think all of Florence and The Machine’s last album. Yuck.
Let this song guide you through fall days, warm sweaters, hot cider, and red leaves falling off trees.
I prefer that my music touches my soul in a way that is equal parts innocence and equal parts trippy. Grimes, a Vancouver native who now resides in Montreal, fuses all of her music with touching lyrics and a catchy if not painfully simple beat accompaniment.
And while I’m not introducing Grimes, by any means, her growth has been very impressive to me. Earlier in the year she was relatively unknown, playing small Vancouver Clubs like the Electric Owl. Most recently she opened for Skrillex at the massive PNE Forum. And while I do not promote Skrillex and his absolute bastardization of music in any way, shape, or form it is nonetheless a huge step forward in her career! In under a year this change occurred. Pretty inspiring.
I chose Oblivion because it is her most popular track at the moment and seriously upbeat. If a song could be adorable this is it. It comes from her album “Visions”.
I proudly introduce you, or reintroduce to those who are already fans, Tycho.
Specifically, the new Album Dive. Equal parts chill, equal parts summer, this album makes me want to sit on a train with my headphones in a foreign country while looking out the window. Fly over Japan while the sunrises looking out the window as the plane circles around Mt Fuji (true story, but replace Tycho with Cut Copy). Start a backyard midsummer night’s evening barbeque with friends.
What I’m getting at, this is the life soundtrack for good, dreamy times. I think the musical artwork aptly amplifies this vision:

Last year’s hit, this year’s remix.
I’m loving the upbeat tones throughout the song, the references to The Beatles, and the Norman McLaren appropriated “music video”.
